Learning never stops, and neither has Perry’s love for the field of education. The Legislative Analyst for the LRC Education Committee began her education career over 20 years ago at the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) where she worked for nine years in various roles. “I was part of what was then the Office of District Support Services,” said Perry. “The best part of my time with KDE was being able to work with and help school district staff from across the state.” She came to the LRC about 11 years ago to work with the Office of Education Accountability (OEA) as an Education Accountability Investigator “investigating allegations made against school districts,” said Perry. Her move to the Education Committee staff happened in 2016. She credits her years of experience in state government specifically working with education matters with giving her the knowledge she needs to understand her committee’s mission. “I have an interesting perspective because I know what it’s like to try to implement new legislation. It makes me want to help make new legislation as clear and concise as it can be,” said Perry. Her love for education has been passed down to her and husband Russell’s daughter, Lexas, who just began her teaching career. Perry and Russell also have a son, Garrett, who is employed at Commonwealth Credit Union. Outside of the office, Perry enjoys farm life. “I’ve lived on a farm all my life,” she said. “I also enjoy camping and trail riding with our Tennessee Walking Horses. We’ve been all over Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky on horseback.”
