Employee photo Meet Kathy Thurman.
Efficiency is important to her as LRC’s Bill Tracking Manager. “I always find myself looking back at past sessions at things that need improvement or could have been done differently, and try to think of different ways that I can fix them or make it better,” she said. “I guess you could say that I like perfection when it comes to my job.” Before moving to Bill Tracking a year ago, Kathy worked nine years in LRC Bill Processing—an environment she called “fast paced, detail-oriented and challenging.” Her career before LRC was spent in various administrative roles at Kentucky State University and with the state Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet where she spent three years as statewide DMR (Discharge Monitoring Report) coordinator. “I can truly say that my work background has helped me to strive in learning and absorb all that I can to better understand and be proficient,” Kathy said. It is probably no surprise that the busiest time at work for Kathy is during session when hundreds of bills are moving through the legislative process. “It’s never a dull moment but I really enjoy seeing and helping everyone who comes in my office,” she said. Outside of work, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family, including her daughter, son, and five grandchildren. “I adore everything about them and I spoil them rotten,” Kathy says of her grands. She also enjoys crocheting, bowling, traveling, cooking out, and reading.
