Employee photo Meet Jeff Fossett. You’ll often find him behind a video camera at the State Capitol capturing images that keep people across Kentucky connected with their State Legislature. As LRC’s Video Communications Specialist, Jeff produces videos about the legislative process, issues under consideration, and services offered by the Legislative Research Commission (LRC.) Much of his work is featured on LRC Capitol Connection, the agency’s YouTube channel (http://bit.ly/capconnection.) “One of the best parts of the job is being able to use my creativity on a day-to-day basis,” Fossett said. “It keeps the mind sharp to remain so active.” His favorite assignment in recent years was creating an agency recruitment video to continue attracting highly talented workers into service as legislative support staff. Besides producing videos, Fossett is responsible for maintaining video archives of General Assembly proceedings and handling requests for copies of the recordings. He is also an accomplished photographer and offers help with the agency’s information and communications technology. In recent years, Fossett has been increasingly active with the National Conference of State Legislatures, where he serves as Chair of the Legislative Information and Communications Staff Section and as a member of the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee. Prior to joining LRC in 1993, Fossett spent 13 years as a TV newsman for stations in Lexington. In his spare time, he enjoys refereeing high school and college volleyball games, working on home remodeling projects, raising koi, refinishing furniture, and working with wood or “anything involving tools.” He and his wife, Valerie, have two daughters and four grandchildren and are active in their church, Southland Christian Church.
