Employee photo Meet Bud Kraft. He's probably spent more time capturing the General Assembly through a camera lens than anyone else. For 11 years as an LRC Assistant Public Information Officer, Kraft has taken his share of memorable photos that document General Assembly action, visits from dignitaries and special guests and picturesque views of the Capitol grounds. "So much goes on at the Capitol on any given day," he said. “My goal is to present a historical representation of the General Assembly. I particularly like photos that show the interaction between citizens and lawmakers and their commitment to making life better in our state. It’s especially nice when those photos show the moments of fun that people have while working together in the Capitol.” Kraft came to the LRC Office of Public Information after a long newspaper career as a newspaper photographer. During his time here, his work has been recognized with numerous awards, including first-place awards for the past three years in the “Single Photo” category in the Kentucky Association of Government Communicators’ Awards of Excellence competition. Outside of his work at the LRC, Kraft shoots NASCAR races and has covered the silks of the Kentucky Derby for 30 years. “It’s in my blood because I’ve done it for so many years,” he said. “I’m still learning new techniques and fine-tuning skills.” A Versailles resident, Kraft said his favorite photography subjects are his two children, Ryan and Hailey.
